Los Angeles is well known for its music scene. Popular venues around USC such as the Shrine, the House of Blues, and the Staples Center make it easy for students to go out and enjoy both famous and upcoming artists. Recently, I found out about First Friday’s, an event that happens on the first Friday of every month at The Natural History Museum. Each month a topic is chosen and speakers from the Los Angeles area come to have discussions and talks on that certain subject. In addition, different artists come and play live music in the first floor wings of the museum at night. Musicians such as War Paint and Zack de la Rocha from Rage Against the Machine have come to play in the past. Since the spaces for these small concerts are relatively small, tickets for these events sell out quickly. Most students do not take advantage of what museums have to offer. Events such as this one are easily accessible and a fun way to meet people who are interested in sharing their Los Angeles story with others.
