All My Life: The Importance of Community

September 30, 2022 by Dayvin Mendez Leave a Comment

All my life is a 2020 romance movie that was directed by Marc Meyers, written by Todd Rosenberg, and based off of a true story. The movie follows our main characters, Jenn and Sol, as they make the most out of Sol’s last couple of months to live. Jenn and Sol are getting ready to start their lives together when Sol gets very sick. He wakes up one night in excruciating pain and knows immediately that something isn’t right. After the first round of tests the doctor informs Jenn and Sol that he has a tumor on his liver. He starts treatment and after more testing he’s informed that the cancer is spreading and things aren’t looking great. They decide to postpone their wedding planning and put all of their focus into Sol’s treatment. Their friends and family see how hard of a time Jenn and Sol are having and they decide that they’re going to plan their wedding for them. Sol’s health isn’t getting any better and a wedding would really help boost their spirits, especially because they know Sol’s time is limited. Jenn and Sol’s friends and family post their story and they garner a lot of help from the people in the community who want to make the wedding a reality. They are able to organize the entire thing while Jenn and Sol can focus on Sol’s treatment and enjoying their time together. The community is able to get the venue together for the wedding and the reception, they’re able to have all the food, music, and other expenses covered. The community saw a couple who was in love and needed help in this really rough time. Jenn and Sol couldn’t get this wedding done on their own and it’s great that they were still able to have their dream wedding.

People are often able to come together in times of need. Whenever there’s a crisis is when we are able to see people really band together and figure things out. People are willing to work together for a common good and are able to really make a difference. Jenn and Sol wouldn’t have been able to have their wedding without their community banding together to make it happen for them. With all the stress of Sol’s treatment and being aware that they’re running low on time together, a wedding is the last thing on their minds. The community was able to allow for a beautiful moment to happen before Sol unfortunately passes away. The couple was able to have a moment that they’ll never forget.
