Accidental Poetry

March 8, 2012 by A.J. Serrano Leave a Comment

accidental poetry
spilling onto the page
like frothy milk
inspired by
stars draped over a velvet canvas
margaritas in mason jars
uncontrollable laughter
vivid colours impossibly hued
beach hair
falling out of the sky
over a patchwork of green and blue
marriage proposals at pizza bars
literal leaps of faith
friendships knit together nations away
from home
lilting accents chiming “brekkie” and “heaps”
a three-story townhouse
with six roommates
bound by heart-to-hearts in a too-small kitchen
and the domination of unwelcome eight-legged creatures
sunsets exploding over tennis courts
Tim Tams and Big Chunk Kit Kats (cookies and cream)
impromptu beach swims at 2 a.m.
still dressed up from the night before
hippie coastal beach towns
sugar sand and snorkeling
dancing on bar tops crowded with friends
and through all this–
the beauty and the debauchery–
God’s breath
soul-liberating stuff
in a land
a world away
spinning poetry
with each beat
of its untamed heart
